Department of Biomedical Engineering
The Department of Biomedical Engineering is one of 3 departments in the study center of Life Science Technology and has currently 10 employees working in the fields of management, teaching and research, 4 laboratory assistants as well as additional 60 freelance lecturers who incorporate their specialized expertise into numerous projects.
The department contains 3 areas of expertise: medical engineering, biomedical computer science and rehabilitation technology. Within the department the project topics range from traditional medical engineering (such as mechanical ventilation technology and sensor systems) to the field of eHealth (for example, the eCard and electronic health records) as well as prosthetics and neuroprosthetics. For a good balance between theory and practice as well as high quality in research and study, following labs are available:

- Rehabilitation Technology - Lab
- Control Engineering - Lab
Based on applied science with numerous industry partners, the department is coordinating the study of 6 bachelor's and 4 master's degree programs, whereas nearly one half of the lectures is held by full-time personal. The second half is covered by freelance lecturers from economy and industry.
