Overcoming inhibitions

The University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien has made it a central goal to encourage more women to gain a technical education. To this end, it implements measures that are particularly beneficial to women and that help them to overcome any inhibitions standing in the way of them entering a technical field of study.

The fact that only a small proportion of the people who choose to enter technical degree programs are women is due, on the one hand, to women's uncertainties about working with technology and, on the other hand, to women receiving too little information about the career opportunities available after completing a technical degree. In order for women to be able to make an informed decision about studying technology, they need to have a precise idea of the kinds of careers available in the field of technology and the opportunities this kind of education offers for their future and their career.

What do we want to do in the future?

  • We want to increase the proportion of women in all of the degree programs offered by UAS Technikum Wien.
  • We want to support women in their decisions about further education and promote our technical degree programs even more by making presentations at schools with a high proportion of women.
  • We want to increase the proportion of women in teaching positions.
  • In addition, we will not limit ourselves just to activities but will take gender mainstreaming seriously. This means that we will take the differences between men's and women's interests and needs into consideration.
  • Our goal is for gender mainstreaming to be embraced at UAS Technikum Wien and to be recognized within the university of applied sciences as well as by the outside world.
