Students who have previous education in a relevant field (e.g. at a technical secondary school) may be exempted from the first and even the second semester of most bachelor's degree programs. This can reduce the length of the six-semester degree program by up to a year. The program director is responsible for all decisions about students being exempted.
Graduates of a technical secondary school with knowledge relevant to their field of study may be exempted from the first semesters (generally the first two semesters) of many of the bachelor's degree programs offered at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien. Exemptions are granted after the completion of an admission process (placement test) and a personal counseling interview with the program director. Due to the limited student intake, the possibility of being exempted (see the information sheet in the toolbox) is subject to the number of spaces available in the respective semester of the program and the number of applicants for these spaces.
In some cases, students who have successfully completed one or more semesters of a degree program at another post-secondary institution can be exempted from the first semesters of the degree program. In these cases, students must not only provide written certification of their acquired knowledge, but must also take an exam to demonstrate their technical knowledge. Transfers are not possible without written certification.
In addition to be exempted from of full semesters, most bachelor's degree programs allow exemptions from courses for which students have previous knowledge that is certified in writing. For example, a course that has been successfully completed at another post-secondary institution can be recognized by the professor who teaches the subject at UAS Technikum Wien. The recognition of a previous course makes it unnecessary for the student to take the relevant course at UAS Technikum Wien. This allows students to take fewer classes and fewer exams.
