Excellence in eHealth Awarded Twice – Health Research Award 2017

On 15.03.2017 the 9th Österreichische Gesundheitswirtschaftskongress took place. Within this event the 6th Health Research Award has been awarded. This year University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien took part again in the category eHealth with two master theses from students of the Master Degree Program Biomedical Engineering Sciences. Ms Ilana Snitkovski, MSc handed in her work with the title “Development of a Bluetooth Low Energy based Wearable Application for Weight Telemonitoring” and won the 1st prize in the category eHealth. Moreover Ms Sarah Kardinar, MSc was awarded the 3rd prize for her work with the title “The Cooperative patient Overview System”. Thereby two master theses related to the Master Degree Program Biomedical Engineering Sciences of the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien were awarded for their innovative character and their quality.

This study program, as several others as well, is tightly connected to the research focus “Secure Services, eHealth & Mobility”, which is based on the cooperation of the departments of “Biomedical, Health & Sports Engineering”, “Information Engineering and Security” and “Computer Science”. The results and knowledge gained from the research projects are transferred directly to the lectures of the specific study programs. By these means the content of those lectures can be held cutting-edge. The thesis of Ms Snitkovski deals with the development of a mobile application for a Smart Watch for the connection to a “Personal Health Gateway” and to a national infrastructure, like the electronic healthcare record, ELGA. Besides, the thesis of Ms Kardinar focuses on an overview for a patient summary for an affinity domain in the Austrian healthcare system.
