First official delegation trip of the rectorate after their nomination
Rector Sylvia Geyer and Vice-Rector Stefan Sauermann, together with representatives of the Faculties of Life Sciences and Industrial Engineering and the International Office, embarked on their first official delegation trip at the beginning of November since their rectorate appointment.
The trip took them to the Universidade de Tras-os-Montes (UTAD) in Vila Real in northern Portugal. There is a long-standing partnership between UTAD and the UAS Technikum Wien, which had its origins back in 1997 at a conference in Marburg, where Prof. Stefan Sauermann and Prof. Luís Torres Peireira got to know each other. Until today, both institutions are not only connected by common experiences in the field of ERASMUS+ and projects in different research fields, but also by a long-standing friendship.
The main reason for the visit was to get to know the newly appointed rectors teams on both sides, with the signing of the extension of the PhD agreement in an festive atmosphere as the highlight. Numerous discussions on internationalization, the existing PhD program and other potential areas of cooperation were on the agenda.
UAS Technikum Wien and UTAD are currently jointly represented in several projects, including PrepaCare (XR) under the leadership of Mathias Frohner. Another partner from Vila Real in this project is the local hospital Centro Hospitalar de Trás os Montes e Alto Douro (CHMTAD), with which other projects have already been implemented. A vision of the hospital developed together with UTAD, is the establishment of a new Clinical Academic Center. As a first step, a simulation center is to be established here, in which the UAS Technikum Wien will contribute its know-how. This simulation center could be realized with the help of the projects PrepaCare (XR), MedtechMR and Linked Care.
In the already existing PhD program, further research areas are to be worked out and an even stronger connection to local companies is to be established.
