Embedded in Europe: Exploring Tech and Culture Through a Study Trip
Earlier this year, I had the chance to participate in a Short Term Mobility that took place partly at TH Nürnberg and partly at Brno University of Technology. The entire trip was organized by our degree program (Information and Communication Systems and Services), and we spent a few days at each location as part of the program. A major highlight of this experience was attending the Embedded World Exhibition & Conference 2025 in Nuremberg – one of the world’s leading events in the field of embedded systems.
Unlike my Summer School experience in August 2024, where I was initially unsure, this time I was genuinely excited to take part in another international opportunity. However, one thing that stood out was that the destination and structure of the trip were planned without consulting us students about our preferences. Since many of us had already been to Brno last year, some of us would have appreciated the chance to explore a different place this time. That said, we were once again the first group allowed to complete the “Embedded Systems” course abroad, which still made it a special experience.
The Embedded World Conference was absolutely amazing – packed with insightful talks, innovative technology, impressive booths, and lots of great freebies. However, I have to admit that I wasn’t particularly impressed by TH Nürnberg. Unlike in Brno, where we were warmly welcomed and always had a clear point of contact, our arrival at TH Nürnberg felt very impersonal – we just went directly into the classroom without any introduction or guidance. The university itself didn’t leave a strong impression either.
Brno, on the other hand, once again delivered an excellent experience. It’s a beautiful city that I was genuinely happy to return to. The students at Brno University of Technology were once again incredibly friendly, and working with them was both enjoyable and enriching.
If I can give one piece of advice: whenever a study trip like this is being planned, I’d highly recommend that student representatives get involved in the decision-making process. Having a say can really improve the experience for everyone. That said, I’m still very grateful for the opportunity and happy that I took part – though I do believe it had the potential to be even better.
