Cooperation between UAS Technikum Wien and rowing federation

The University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien and the Austrian Rowing Federation (ÖRV) are collaborating to research technical parameters of rowing boats as well as biomechanical factors with athletes. Just recently, there was another meeting at the Technikum with the sports director of the rowing federation, Norbert Lambing, the head of the Life Science Engineering faculty, Anton Sabo, and the deputy head of the Bachelor Human Factors and Sports Engineering and Master Sports Technology programs, Otto Hofstätter.

In addition to investigating biomechanics with various sensors, the collaboration has so far also analyzed material properties of individual components, for example. With the high quality measurement technology and test benches at the FH Technikum Wien, the most diverse questions of trainers can be investigated and answered. This cooperation will be continued in 2022 with a unique measurement technology project. The first results are expected in the middle of the year.

For the cooperation with the ÖRV, the FH Technikum Wien now also has its own rowing boat. This is equipped with sensor technology that helps coaches and athletes to find their individual optimum. For this purpose, it is important that the human being and the equipment remain in their original form and that there is no influence on the athletic technique.

To enable students of the Bachelor Human Factors and Sports Engineering and Master Sports Technology programs to work on current and interesting topics, the University of Applied Sciences maintains close contact with associations and companies. These project-based collaborations offer students a variety of opportunities. As part of their studies, they can experience practice first-hand and thus learn what demands are placed on equipment and people. One example of this is the long-standing cooperation with the Austrian Rowing Association.
