District head Christine Dubravac-Widholm visited FH Technikum Wien on Daughters’ Day

25 April, 2024
UAS Technikum Wien opened its doors for the Vienna Daughters’ Day and the head of the 20th district of Vienna, Christine Dubravac-Widholm, used this opportunity to visit the institution and talk to FHTW Managing Director Barbara Czak-Pobeheim about current issues.
The Vienna Daughters’ Day offers young girls the opportunity to explore different workplaces or experience a taster day in companies. UAS Technikum Wien also opened its doors and offered exciting workshops. The participation of the head of the 20th district of Vienna, Christine Dubravac-Widholm, underlines the importance of promoting women in technology. Through such initiatives, young girls are encouraged to discover their interest in technological topics and possibly pursue a future in this field.
Diverse insights into the world of technology
There were two fascinating workshops to choose from at UAS Technikum Wien on Daughters’ Day. One of them dealt with prototyping app interfaces. Here, the girls learned how to create initial designs for smartphone apps using simple tools such as pen, paper and post-its.
The second workshop took the young participants into the fascinating world of the microcosm. Under the motto “Research in the microcosm”, the girls were given an insight into tissue engineering and ecotoxicology. They were able to look at their own cells under a microscope and learn how different cells can be used for scientific experiments.
Getting to know technology, digitalization, crafts and natural sciences
At the annual Vienna Daughters’ Day, girls can spend a taster day in a company – and get to know professions in the fields of technology/digitalization, crafts and natural sciences. All schoolgirls from the 1st grade of secondary school or grammar school up to the Matura who go to school in Vienna, Lower Austria or Burgenland are invited. Participation is free of charge for girls and companies. The Vienna Daughters’ Day is an initiative of the Deputy Mayor and Women’s City Councillor Kathrin Gaál, who was also present at UAS Technikum Wien on this day, and the Vienna Women’s Service in cooperation with the Education Directorate for Vienna and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce.
