FH Technikum Wien has already been an “informal member” of the bloxberg consortium since summer 2020, at the time as the first university in Austria. Now the FHTW is also an official member. On the initiative of Alexander Mense (Faculty Head Computer Science), the UAS uses blockchain for scientific development.

“Free access to a modern blockchain is essential for state-of-the-art teaching and project development at universities and universities of applied sciences. We are proud to be part of a worldwide network of renowned universities and organizations that can provide such an infrastructure and services based on it, in an energy-efficient way,” Mense is pleased to say.

“The Bloxberg Association” (association headquarters is in Munich) is a global blockchain that was launched in spring 2019 as a secure infrastructure of decentralized services for scientists. Operators of the network are research institutions from different countries around the world.

Based on the blockchain infrastructure, bloxberg members provide various applications for the scientific community. These help scientists, for example, in proving the authenticity of research data, protecting the intellectual property of research results or peer reviews of scientific publications.

Recent blockchain developments at the Computer Science faculty

bloxberg uses Ethereum technology, which has become known for numerous applications of smart contracts. Staff members of the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien are also working on the latest developments in the field of blockchain. As part of a dedicated blockchain course, students can learn about Ethereum as well as other well-known technologies such as Hyperledger Fabric, MultiChain, R3 Corda and IOTA and try them out in practice.

Founded by Max Planck Digital Library together with other leading research institutions from ten countries, the bloxberg consortium has a democratic organizational structure. The members decide jointly on the acceptance of new applicants.

The Technikum Wien Academy offers blockchain seminars with a focus on business and technology, including certification.
