“Future of Cyber Security” Vision Session at DEF CON Singapore

An Austrian delegation visited Singapore to learn about current cybersecurity trends and best practices. The focus was on fraud prevention, regulation, and innovative protective measures for critical infrastructure.
From April 27 to 30, 2026, Alexander Nimmervoll, Head of the Cloud Service and Security Competency Area, participated in the “Future of Cyber Security” study tour organized by Advantage Austria and the first DEF CON Singapore. The Future of Cyber Security trip offered representatives from Austrian companies, institutions, and universities the opportunity to learn about current developments and best practices at the intersection of regulation, innovation, and cybersecurity.
DEF CON Singapore is part of the world’s leading DEF CON community and ranks among the most important platforms for cybersecurity and ethical hacking. For the first time, the conference brought together international experts, researchers, and corporate representatives in Singapore to discuss current developments in the areas of digital security, attack simulations, and the protection of critical infrastructure.
Current Cybersecurity Trends
The “Journey into the Future” focused on current cybersecurity trends, with a particular emphasis on Singapore’s strategies for fraud prevention, scamming, and fraud protection. The goal was to learn about best practices, regulatory approaches, and innovative solutions, and to gain valuable insights for further developing their own security strategies.
The varied program included visits to the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), SGTech, INTERPOL’s Command Center—where participants received a briefing on global perspectives on cybercrime—and Amazon Web Services (AWS), where the focus was on cyber resilience in the global cloud. Other stops during the trip included the Mastercard Cyber & Intelligence Center and the Singtel Future Innovation Center, which provided insights into innovative telecommunications applications and future technologies. The program was complemented by discussions with the EU Delegation in Singapore. A special highlight was the meet-and-greet with Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How and experts from the Ministry of Digital Development and Information.
Nicolas Pozdena, who was studying in the Master’s program in Data Science at UAS Technikum Wien, also supported Advantage Austria as a volunteer on site.
