Open Source Platform for Smart Digital Innovations: FIWARE Workshop at B2B Software Days 2025

09 July, 2025
The workshop led by Lukas Rohatsch (UAS Technikum Wien) focused on open interfaces, smart data models, and real-world use cases. Participants benefited from a thorough introduction to FIWARE and its potential applications.
As part of the International B2B Software Days at Vienna City Hall, the workshop “Introduction to FIWARE: A comprehensive overview of the platform, its architecture, and core components” took place on May 20, 2025, with 19 participants. The workshop was led by Lukas Rohatsch, Senior Lecturer/Researcher in the Software Engineering & Architecture competence field. The workshop was aimed at developers and technology leaders who want to better understand and apply the strategic potential of FIWARE for their organizations.
The workshop offered a thorough and easy-to-understand introduction to the open source platform FIWARE, which is considered the central technological foundation for smart digital solutions in areas such as smart cities, agriculture, and Industry 4.0. The workshop covered topics such as the architecture of FIWARE, its central building blocks – such as the Context Broker – and how these components enable data processing and decision-making in intelligent systems. The workshop also discussed how open source technologies can promote innovation processes.
The workshop was made possible by funding from this project:

Smart data models for building intelligent applications
Participants gained valuable insights into how FIWARE works, learned the basics of the Next Generation Service Interface (NGSI), and discovered how important smart data models are for building intelligent applications. Real-world use cases were also presented during the workshop and illustrated with live demonstrations. A discussion round concluded the workshop.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Vienna Business Agency, which is responsible for project management of the Open Source Innovation Hubs project and played a key role in organizing the International B2B Software Days 2025.
We are delighted to have been able to participate in the International B2B Software Days 2025 and would like to thank all participants for their interest, active participation, and lively exchange.
