29 October, 2026

The International Office is launching “Partner Spotlight,” a new news series dedicated to our international partners.

In each issue of our new “Partner Spotlight” series, we feature a partner university, highlighting the people and inspiring stories behind our global partnerships. For the first issue, we are pleased to shine the spotlight on our new partner, the University of Namibia (UNAM).

The University of Namibia

Namibia · Windhoek and 11 other campus nationwide · founded in 1992

Good to know

approx. 26 000 students · Engineering campus in Ongediva· currently over 300 research projects

Why go there?

1. A different perspective on technology and engineering. Students and staff members can see how engineering, ICT, energy, agriculture, water and infrastructure are approached in a Namibian context.

2. Sustainability becomes tangible. Namibia offers particularly relevant contexts for renewable energy, water scarcity, climate adaptation, sustainable infrastructure and resource management — areas that are increasingly important for European engineers too.

3. Potential for applied projects. Depending on the programme and agreement, there could be opportunities to connect mobility with projects, research or theses addressing real-world challenges.

Our Partnership

brand new since 2026 · includes Erasmus+ Student & Staff Mobility · potential collaboration opportunities in computing and digitalisation, green hydrogen and renewable energy, materials science, biotechnology, healthcare and rehabilitation sciences.

Life there

City

The main campus is in Pionierspark, close to Windhoek´s city centre. Windhoek offers shopping centres, restaurants, cafés and various leisure activities. The university has a diverse and international student community.

Accommodation

UNAM offers student residences on several campuses. Living on campus is convenient because lecture halls, libraries and other facilities are nearby. International students need proof of accommodation for their study/residence permit.

Living Expenses

Here you’ll find information about the cost of living in Namibia.

Getting there

Situated over the Khomas Mountains some 45kms east of Windhoek, the Hosea Kutako International Airport is the flagship airport of Namibia. From the airport, it is recommended to travel by shuttle, taxi or rental car to Windhoek.

Delegation visit to UNAM in September 2026:

„The visit marked an important first step in building a lasting bridge between UNAM and Technikum. We return with new connections, inspiring conversations and many ideas for future collaboration — and look forward to turning these first discussions into concrete opportunities for students, researchers, and both institutions.“

Florian Eckkrammer, Managing Director UAS Technikum Wien

Study differently. See the world differently.
We look forward to the next chapter of our partnership with UNAM.
