PLECS Workshop: Students Deepened Their Knowledge of Power Electronics

07 April, 2026
An in-depth look at the world of modern power electronics development for students: From simulation to hardware testing.
Power electronics is considered a key technology for solutions in sustainable energy generation, electromobility, and much more. It is also a crucial factor in AI data centers for keeping energy consumption as low as necessary.
For two days at Höchstädtplatz, the event focused on the relevant steps in power electronics development for students and researchers. Topics ranged from software-tool-supported circuit analysis and simulation solvers to Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
Day one focused on first steps and selected specialized topics. This resulted in a nicely packed program attended by 20 students from three degree programs in the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Entrepreneurship.
An interesting exchange of experiences took place with representatives from industry and universities
The participation of representatives from industry and other universities also led to an interesting exchange of experiences. On the second day, the advanced session continued with the implementation of digital controllers for converter applications and the use of real-time computers for testing. The hands-on exercises were the key to success.
“A valuable and successful event from which our students benefited greatly,” summarizes Johannes Gragger (Head of the Power Electronics and Control Systems competence area and responsible for coordination with PLEXIM).
