Plus-Energy-High-Rise & Solar-Platform: Excursion to Innovative Energy Projects

10 April, 2025
The excursion focused on an office tower with an energy surplus and an innovative solar roof. International students from all over the world learned about new solutions for sustainable construction.
On January 15, 2025, Momir Tabakovic (field of competence leader Renewable Energy Technologies, UAS Technikum Wien) accompanied a group of incoming students from the course “Building and Solar Energy” (Campus International) to two exciting projects in the field of sustainable energy technologies in Vienna.
Visit to the Plus-Energie-Bürohochhaus at TU Wien
The first stop of the excursion was the Plus-Energie-Bürohochhaus at TU Wien on Getreidemarkt. This unique high-rise generates more energy than it needs for its operation and use. Thanks to an innovative combination of building-integrated photovoltaics, energy efficiency measures and intelligent use of waste heat, it sets new standards for sustainable construction. The students gained exciting insights into the technical concepts and their practical implementation.
Photovoltaic innovation at Matzleinsdorfer Platz
The group then visited the award-winning PV platform canopy at Matzleinsdorfer Platz. This innovative photovoltaic system serves as a test project for future platform roofs and combines energy generation with functional weather protection. The system, with a capacity of 58.7 kWp, generates up to 50,000 kWh per year and contributes to the sustainable energy supply in public spaces.
This excursion offered students valuable insights into the practical implementation of renewable energy concepts and highlighted the importance of innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
