Successful Launch Of The New Master’s Program In Creative And Human-centered Technology At UAS Technikum Wien

02 October, 2026
Following extensive improvements, the program welcomes 39 students in its first semester—with a remarkably high level of diversity and a female enrollment rate of nearly 50 percent.
In mid-September, regular classes began at UAS Technikum Wien for the newly designed Master’s program in Creative and Human-Centered Technology. The team welcomed 39 new master’s students to the campus for the start of the academic year. The start of the program marks the successful completion of an intensive, 18-month transformation process.
Evolution with a Vision: From Game Engineering to the Human-Technology Interface
The program has a dynamic history: It began as a pioneer in the field of Game Engineering and later shifted its focus to AI Engineering. Now, the curriculum is turning a new page: Creative and Human-Centered Technology places people, creative technologies, and forward-looking interfaces between technology, design, and society at the center. Following intensive preparation, the realignment was officially approved in May 2026 by the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria (AQ Austria).
In recent weeks, faculty members and external instructors have worked with great passion and dedication to develop the specific courses for the first semester—courses that are practice-oriented, interdisciplinary, and in tune with the times.
Enormous diversity of subjects, nationwide networking, and nearly 50% female enrollment
The composition of the first cohort is particularly exciting: the 39 students perfectly reflect the program’s interdisciplinary focus. Their academic backgrounds range from traditional computer science, AI, and software engineering to media technology, game technologies, and creative computing, as well as graphic design, business informatics, and engineering psychology or cognitive science.
Their geographic origins are just as diverse: In addition to graduates from UAS Technikum Wien and other Viennese universities and universities of applied sciences, the cohort includes students from all over Austria as well as from universities in Germany and the Netherlands.
This multifaceted cohort is rounded out by a ratio that is exceptional for a technical master’s program: The gender ratio stands at nearly 50 percent.
“We are very pleased with the successful launch and the great trust the students have placed in us. The fact that we have a female enrollment rate of nearly 50 percent in a technical master’s program is anything but a given and represents a very special affirmation of our program’s direction. We are eagerly looking forward to our time together and the projects that will emerge,” said Benedikt Salzbrunn, interim Program Director of the Master’s program in Creative and Human-Centered Technology.
With the official start of classes, the 39 students dove right into hands-on work—supported by a dedicated team from academia and industry.
