The International Office on Job Shadowing with neighbors

22 March, 2024
Visits to Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and FH Ost.
This trip was part of an effort to strengthen cooperation and exchange between the UAS Technikum Wien and the Swiss partners. It was an extremely enlightening and inspiring experience, providing a deep insight into the Swiss education system and the innovative approaches of these two institutions.
Lucerne is easily accessible by train from Vienna. Provided there is no construction work in Germany or various rail strikes by train staff preventing a trip across the German border, after a good nine hours, three coffees and a change of trains in Zurich, you arrive in Lucerne on the picturesque shores of Lake Lucerne.
Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU)
The UAS Technikum Wien and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts may not have been working together for a long time, but their collaboration is all the more intense and has resulted in several joint study programs.
The UAS Technikum has been working with the School of Computer Science and Information Technology, which is located about 20 minutes by train from Lucerne in Rotkreuz, in the fields of Information System Management and Software Engineering. The school is less than five minutes away from the train station and the colleagues from the International Office welcomed us in a very modern new building, which looked very friendly and bright thanks to the wood and concrete materials. We actually saw students poring over their books in the bright and friendly library.
The campus of the School of Engineering & Architecture is located about ten minutes outside of Lucerne in Horw. The red buildings are immediately recognizable from the train station. The School of Engineering and Architecture has its own laboratory wing where students can realize their ideas. The HSLU also has its own workshop where students can have materials specially made for their projects.
Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (FH Ost)
Picturesquely situated directly on Lake Zurich, the UAS East offers its students the opportunity to study with a view of the lake and the mountains beyond. In addition to the School of Technology, the campus in Rapperswil-Jona is also home to the School of Computer Sciences.
The Techpark (in German only) offers the best conditions for students to carry out practical project work (BA/MA) and research for the development of innovative and application-oriented solutions.
Job Shadowing
The aim of job shadowing is to get to know your own area of work at a partner institution and to exchange experiences. The aim is to reflect on and optimize one’s own working methods. This type of mobility is also eligible for funding as part of Erasmus+ Staff Training. More information can be found on the Moodle Infobase.
