How important is UAS Technikum Wien’s participation in Vienna Pride?
Mark Adams: Participating in Vienna Pride is very important to us. It is not only a celebration of diversity and acceptance, but also a powerful demonstration against discrimination and for equality. Our presence at the parade and other Pride events shows that we as a university are a safe and supportive place for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
What has changed at UAS Technikum Wien since Queer Engineer was founded in 2022?
Mark Adams: We have made great progress since Queer Engineer was founded. There is now a strong network for LGBTQIA+ students and staff that regularly organizes activities and offers support. The creation of an anonymous feedback form and active participation in the Students support Students network on Discord has greatly improved visibility and a sense of belonging within our community. We are particularly proud of the openness and commitment of our students and staff, who help to promote an inclusive culture.
What makes Vienna Pride special?
Mark Adams: Vienna Pride offers a platform for community associations, LGBTIQ artists and cooperation partners to present and celebrate LGBTIQ culture. The Rainbow Parade on June 8 was another highlight, with over 300,000 participants. UAS Technikum Wien took part together with queer@hochschulen to send a strong signal for acceptance and diversity. Our participation underlined our ongoing commitment to promoting an open and appreciative organizational culture.
UAS Technikum Wien is proud to be part of the queer@hochschulen initiative, which provides an important platform for networking and support within Austria’s higher education institutions. Together with other universities and universities of applied sciences, we are committed to promoting LGBTIQAA* issues and advocating for an open and inclusive society.
