Category description

This category recognizes courses in which students learn in a practical and application-oriented manner by working on projects. The focus is on working on complex issues, developing solutions independently and collaborating on an interdisciplinary basis. Projects should strengthen the link between theory and practice and give students the opportunity to apply their specialist knowledge, acquire key skills and take responsibility for the learning process. The criteria by which the jury will judge the submissions in this category are as follows: • The projects enable the application of specialist knowledge to solve practically relevant and complex issues. • Students work independently and take responsibility for the planning, implementation and presentation of their results. • The projects promote the development of key skills such as teamwork and problem-solving strategies. • The course offers structured supervision and regular feedback during the course of the project.

Reasons for submission

e.g. What criteria do you use to select topics or problems? How do you establish a link to real-world practice? What measures ensure that projects are realistic, up to date, and manageable for students?

e.g. What level of decision-making autonomy do students have in planning and executing their projects? How do you support them in developing independent solutions? What mechanisms are in place to encourage initiative and responsibility?

e.g. What formats or methods do you use for supervision (e.g., milestones, feedback sessions, coaching)? How do you support students in dealing with challenges such as forming groups, assigning roles, or developing project topics? How do you encourage reflection on individual and group learning progress?
