A cloud-based library system and thousands of new e-books

04 February, 2021

The library at UAS Technikum Wien was able to successfully conclude a major undertaking in January 2021: It worked with the Österreichische Bibliothekenverbund (Austrian Library Association) over a period of nine months to convert to the new ALMA library system.

ALMA is a cloud-based service platform that manages both printed and electronic media through a common interface. The new library system and the new version of the PRIMO search engine finally went live in the second half of January.

The new user interface in PRIMO guarantees optimum presentations on mobile devices as well. The improved interface makes researching and managing one’s own profile much easier.

Another aspect that the library focused on throughout 2020 was the expansion of electronic resources. The measures were initiated for the purposes of ensuring that students and staff were still able to access the widest possible range of media in spite of the restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic.

UAS Technikum Wien has now already made more than 10,000 e-books available – with more than 2,500 current titles being added in 2020 alone. An additional database was also licensed with Statista, a platform that contains more than one million statistics.

The new system and the additional electronic resources mean that the library is now ready for the demands that the digital ‘world of education’ will be making on it.
