International expertise and inspiring input
The summer school kicked off with specialist presentations by national and international experts.
The speakers included:
Melanie Eilert – expert in inclusion in the field of gaming
Mara Schulze(FJMK) – researcher specializing in accessible game design
Chris Veigl (UAS Technikum Wien) – expert in accessible technology development
Stefan Wilhelm (Inclusive Gaming GmbH) – specialist in accessible game engineering
Their contributions provided participants with a well-founded overview of current developments and challenges in the field of inclusive game design.
Joint projects for greater inclusion in gaming
In international, interdisciplinary teams, the students worked together with so-called co-designers – people with various disabilities who were actively involved in the design process – to develop creative solutions for accessible gaming.
Both digital games (computer and console games) and analog games such as dominoes were adapted to make them accessible to as many people as possible.
Results and impressions
The project results – including photos, videos, and detailed descriptions – impressively demonstrate how inclusion can be designed in a playful way. They illustrate the potential of interdisciplinary collaboration and international exchange in the field of accessible and adaptive gaming.
We would like to thank the City of Vienna for funding the Inclusion International project (prj-no: 33-02), of which Assist Heidi is a part.
