In mid-January 2025, the Rector of Lapland University of Applied Sciences, Riitta Rissanen, visited the Rector of UAS Technikum Wien, Sylvia Geyer, together with Hannu Kähkölä, Director of the School of Arctic Natural Resources and Economy, and Mari Putaansuu, Head of International Relations. The visit served the purpose of further coordination in the course of the Action Plan with defined areas in which the two higher education institutions cooperate. The Action Plan is now in its third year and recommendations and a guideline for the year 2025 have been drawn up. Among other things, there will be an increased focus on generative AI and how it is used in teaching, and topics such as joint study programmes (double degrees) and common reserach activities will be highlighted.

The visit also offered the opportunity to take stock of the existing double degree program between Mechanical Engineering at Lapland UAS and Renewable Energies, represented by head of the program David Fellner, of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering at UAS Technikum Wien. In the last five years of the double degree program, 12 Finnish students graduated from UAS Technikum Wien and 19 Austrian students graduated from Lapland UAS. With this look back, the view forwards was also sharpened and the double degree was extended for a further period of five years.
