From Dublin to Turin: Successful Follow-up Strengthens Partnership

13 May, 2026
From campus tours to visits to comparable departments: the exchange at the Politecnico di Torino provided practical insights. Personal encounters strengthened the network and sparked new ideas.
As part of ongoing internationalization efforts, eight colleagues from the Faculty of Computer Science & Applied Mathematics, the Faculty of Life Science Engineering, the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC), the Legal Department, and the International Office at UAS Technikum Wien traveled to Turin at the end of April to visit the Politecnico di Torino (POLITO). The aim of the visit was to deepen existing collaborations and generate new momentum for future cooperation in the frame of job shadowing.
With around 38,000 students and an international population of over 20%, POLITO is one of Europe’s leading technical universities. Founded in 1859, this long-established institution offers a wide range of programs in engineering, architecture, and design. It is particularly distinguished by its strong international focus and close cooperation with industry and research.
The delegation visit built on a joint English language course held in Dublin in July 2025, during which initial contacts were strengthened and the foundation for further exchange was established. The visit to POLITO therefore served as a successful follow-up to continue the dialogue that had been initiated and to foster dialogue with individuals from structurally comparable departments within the participating organizations.
An Insight Into The Structures And Working Methods Of The Partner Institution In Turin
The diverse program provided participants with comprehensive insights into the structures and working methods of the partner institution. A particular highlight was a job shadowing day, during which delegation members were able to directly experience the daily work of their colleagues at POLITO. The program was complemented by workshops on key topics in higher education management and intercultural skills, as well as a campus tour and a visit to the Faculty of Architecture at the renowned Valentino Castle.
In addition to professional exchange, personal interaction played a central role, contributing significantly to the strengthening of the partnership. The insights and experiences gained will now be brought back to the home institution and further developed there.
Once again, the delegation visit demonstrated the value of international exchange for sharing best practices, advancing processes, and strengthening international networks. A return visit by colleagues is planned for the 2026/27 academic year. We are already looking forward to it!
„The job shadowing was really informative and also personally important for me. Speaking with a woman in a leading position as an ongoing head of my competence field, was very important for me. We exchanged experiences as woman in engineering science and mother in leading positions.“
