From Hype to Key Skill: Uas Technikum Wien Revamps Its AI Program

02 June, 2026
The Master’s degree program, established in 2020, has been accredited with a completely new curriculum. The program focuses on modern AI methods, AI agents, MLOps, legal and ethical issues, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. Applications from EU applicants are open until 30 June 2026.
Artificial intelligence is transforming every sector – from industry and healthcare to mobility and energy, and on to public administration, research and communication. Consequently, there is a growing demand for experts who can not only implement AI systems, but also understand them from a technical perspective, evaluate them critically and develop them (further) in a responsible manner. UAS Technikum Wien is responding to this development by re-accrediting its English-taught Master’s degree program Artificial Intelligence & Data Science. The program has been in place since 2020 and has now been thoroughly adapted to the current requirements of business, research and society with a completely newly developed curriculum.
Understanding and Application
The new curriculum combines a sound understanding of algorithms with practical application. Among other things, students will study machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, MLOps, big data analytics, AI ethics, AI agents, AI law, and explainable and trustworthy artificial intelligence. Practical projects and real-world use cases remain central components of the programme.
“Artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies are evolving at a rapid pace. With the newly developed curriculum, we are creating a programme that delves deeply into the subject matter whilst remaining strongly application-oriented,” says Bernhard Knapp, Program Director of the Master’s in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science at UAS Technikum Wien. “Our graduates should not only be able to apply AI systems, but also understand them in depth, evaluate them critically, and design and implement them responsibly.”
“The Master’s program has been helping to build practical expertise in the field of artificial intelligence in Austria for years,” says Sylvia Geyer, Rector of UAS Technikum Wien. “It is now being updated to reflect the latest developments.”
Part-time AI Master’s degree
The Master’s program is aimed at individuals with a technical or analytical background who wish to deepen their expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data-driven technologies. The program is offered as an evening course and is therefore well suited to those wishing to study whilst working. After four semesters, students graduate with the academic degree of Master of Science (MSc).
Applications from candidates within the EU are open until 30 June 2026. The programme is scheduled to start in September 2026.
