OeAd University Conference in Kufstein: International Opportunities for Sports Engineering and Ergonomics and Sports Technology

On November 26 and 27, the university conference of OeAD-GmbH – Agency for Education and Internationalization took place at the FH Kufstein Tirol University of Applied Sciences. With a packed program, high-profile speakers, and engaging workshops, the conference offered a highly topical panorama of the internationalization of higher education. Under the main theme “University and the Working World | Global Perspectives,” challenges and opportunities at the the interface between studies, research, and the international professional world were discussed, explored, and critically reflected upon. For students of the Bachelor’s program in Sports Engineering and Ergonomics and the Master’s program in Sports Technology, this agenda is directly relevant, as it shows how mobility, practical relevance, and international collaboration sharpen one’s own competence profile and accelerate entry into career paths in sports technology.

Focus on mobility

A particular focus was placed on Erasmus+ mobility – from semester stays to short-term formats to blended intensive programs – as well as on issues of recognition, quality assurance, and the integration of experiences abroad into the respective curricula. Particularly in sports engineering degree programs, which cover biomechanics, sensor technology, materials development, human factors, and prototyping come together, international projects create clear added value. Students work in diverse teams, test prototypes in different environments, and learn to present results in a way that is appropriate for the target group – skills that are in demand in sports, ergonomics, and medical technology.

Outgoing and the working world

The degree program actively contributed its perspective: In the workshop “The Relevance of Outgoing Mobility in Today’s Working World,” Program Director Stefan Litzenberger, together with Silvia Baldassari, Sandra Gleixner, Marietta Madritsch, and Maya Stopfner. The session was moderated by Angelika Zojer from the OeAD. The focus was on evidence and good practices that show how stays abroad contribute to contribute to strengthening professional excellence, intercultural competence, and employability. For students, this means more guidance in planning mobility, clearer pathways to credit transfer, and better access to scholarships and sports technology internships at home and abroad.

Digital formats

The conference also highlighted cross-cutting issues such as digital teaching and learning formats, inclusion, and “green mobility.” These aspects are already reflected in numerous teaching projects at the UAS Technikum Wien and are being further developed in a targeted manner – for example, through international collaborations, data-driven movement analyses, sustainable material strategies, and barrier-free product development in sports.

Guide for students

The OeAD university conference in Kufstein was therefore not only a forum for university strategies, but also a concrete guide for students who want to combine sports, technology, and internationality, among other things. It offered condensed information, valuable contacts and clear ideas for integrating semesters abroad, BIPs and internships into their studies in a targeted manner into their course of study. The Sports Engineering and Ergonomics (BSc) and Sports Technology (MSc) will incorporate the insights gained into further improvements in advising, curriculum development, and cooperation projects. The goals are clear: to promote talent, accelerate innovation, and prepare graduates for the global world of work in the best possible way.
