28 April, 2026
About 250 visitors, including many families and children, took the opportunity to experience research at UAS Technikum Wien up close.
As part of the Long Night of Research, UAS Technikum Wien opened its doors on April 24, 2026, to technology enthusiasts of all ages. Around 250 visitors, including many families and children, took the opportunity to experience research up close and get hands-on.
A highlight of the Long Night of Research at UAS Technikum Wien was the Science Show. The show was organized by dedicated students from the Gymnasium Klosterneuburg, UAS Technikum’s partner high school. Visitors were treated to a captivating presentation full of exciting experiments, surprising effects, and impressive demonstrations from the world of the natural sciences. Among other things, spectacular hydrogen explosions, dry ice experiments, a plasma cannon, and elephant toothpaste were demonstrated.
Hands-on Stations: Discovering Technical Concepts Through Play
The hands-on stations also drew large crowds and remained very well-attended throughout the evening. Here, visitors could experiment, try things out, and discover technical concepts through play. The interactive offerings were heavily utilized and contributed significantly to the lively atmosphere of the event.
The following hands-on stations were offered:
- Code Cracker – Gene Hackers with WiKi: A two-level DNA and CRISPR game; decode, edit, plus a quiz on genome myths.
- Game Corner: Playable university projects in programming, game design, and AI; all games available to test on-site with controllers.
- FLARE – Safe Embedded Drone Control in a Gimbal: Compact drone demonstrator on a gimbal; showcases real-time processing, stabilization, motor control, and telemetry.
- Experience immersive medicine: VR/AR for anatomy and vision; Cardboards simulate cataracts and color blindness; tasks with altered senses.
- Medical technology in mixed reality: Operate a vital signs monitor in VR or explore and assemble anatomy in a playful way.
- Technology Meets Sports and Ergonomics: Analyze and optimize movements; increase efficiency and prevent discomfort.
The Long Night of Research at UAS Technikum Wien demonstrated once again how effectively science can be communicated in an understandable and tangible way. The high turnout and significant interest underscore the success of the format, which provides low-threshold access to research and technology for a broad audience.
