UAS Technikum Wien as a Partner at Manufacturing Day 2025 in Vienna

30 May, 2025
More than 500 experts from over 40 countries gathered in Vienna to discuss the future of European manufacturing. Key topics included AI, partnerships, and sustainable production models.
On May 9, 2025, the European manufacturing industry gathered in Vienna’s historic Sofiensäle for Manufacturing Day 2025 – the central industry event of the ViennaUP festival. Over 500 participants from more than 40 countries discussed new ways of collaborating for a sustainable, resilient, and technologically leading manufacturing industry under the motto “Collaborate to Innovate.”
As a long-standing network partner of the event, the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien was represented as a sponsor and with its own information stand. Organized by the Competence Field Industrial Product Life Cycle Technologies, the university presented its teaching, training, and research activities with competence field manager Horst Orsolits and Sebastian Rauh (lecturer & researcher). Two AR applications used in teaching at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering were presented.
As a platform for forward-looking projects, exchange, and inspiration, Manufacturing Day also offers universities such as the FH Technikum Wien valuable points of contact for current developments and potential for cooperation in research, teaching, and innovation promotion.
Creativity meets artificial intelligence: Keynote on “Supercollaboration”
The event kicked off with a highly anticipated keynote speech by James Taylor, internationally renowned innovation strategist, speaker, and author. In his presentation, “SUPERCOLLABORATION – Accelerating Innovation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” Taylor impressively demonstrated how the combination of human creativity and machine intelligence is becoming a driver for accelerated innovation processes. His message: it is precisely the interaction between research, industry, and start-ups that will produce the solutions that will secure Europe’s competitiveness.
Start-ups as catalysts: BoostUp! East 2025
The morning focused on the BoostUp! East 2025 pitching competition, in which eight start-ups presented their future-oriented solutions for the manufacturing industry – including concepts for intelligent battery monitoring, AI-supported process optimization, and microbiological innovations for biogas production. The €5,000 prize, sponsored by the Vienna Business Agency, recognized not only technological excellence but also the contribution to the energy transition in production.
Industry in dialogue: Two panels with strategic depth
Two high-caliber panel discussions highlighted the success factors of cooperation in industry:
- “The Collaboration Advantage” showed how strategic partnerships – such as those between UNIDO, Infineon Technologies, FFG, the B&C Group and the Vienna Business Agency – can not only promote innovation but also accelerate it.
- Under the title “Stronger Together”, participants discussed how European industrial cooperation helps to ensure resilience and growth even under challenging conditions.
Relevance for universities: Education as a driver of innovation
The day’s discussions made it clear that universities play a central role in securing long-term innovation potential. Access to knowledge, interdisciplinary exchange, and practical training—as implemented at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien in cooperation with companies, start-ups, and international networks—are crucial for the future of manufacturing.
A strong signal from Vienna
Manufacturing Day 2025 sent a clear signal: the European manufacturing industry is ready to face the major challenges ahead – with openness to new partnerships, technological innovation and a strong education and research network behind it. The University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien sees itself as an active partner in this ecosystem and looks forward to further cooperation, especially in the field of applied research and entrepreneurship in the manufacturing context.
