Volt&Byte 2025: Multilingual Electronics Workshop for Girls and Young Women

This summer, young women spent two weeks learning how to program microcontrollers to make music in the ScienceCenter Network’s knowledge room and at UAS Technikum Wien.
Sonja Ornella Schobesberger (UAS Technikum Wien, field of expertise: applied mathematics, statistics, and physics) held the free electronics workshop “Volt&Byte” in the summer of 2025 in cooperation with the ScienceCenter Network association and UAS Technikum Wien. The participants learned all the basics of mathematics, electrodynamics, computer science, and electronics in German and Farsi, enabling them to write their own code and use Arduino UNO boards to build digital synthesizers and automated drums by the end of the workshop.
“The workshop was really, really, really amazing! For me, it was a chance to discover that I am interested in these subjects. Thank you so much for translating every detail in the lesson from German into Persian especially for me,” said one participant, expressing her gratitude to the workshop leader, Sonja Ornella Schobesberger.
Electronics workshop for girls and women between the ages of 13 and 23
Volt&Byte is a free workshop for girls and women between the ages of 13 and 23 who want to discover the exciting world of electronics. The aim is to find your own approach to science and learn ways to understand technology in our everyday lives.
Specifically, the following topics are covered: electrodynamic quantities, basic mathematics, programming, circuit construction, working with electronic components and Arduino boards, as well as self-confidence and a personal connection to science and technology.
A special feature is that the workshop is taught not only in German, but also in Farsi and English. This is to enable as many girls and women as possible to participate.
