When Practical Experience And Academic Projects Go Hand In Hand: Students Develop An Esg Tool

As part of the Innovation Lab, a team of students has developed a tool that enables the sustainability department at UAS Technikum Wien to centrally collect and analyze environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics.
As part of an Innovation Lab (InnoLab) project, students in the Bachelor’s program in Computer Science developed an innovative ESG dashboard that centrally tracks and visualizes ESG metrics (Environmental, Social, Governance). The dashboard helps clearly document and evaluate relevant sustainability metrics and make them available for reporting processes. The dashboard was developed by Barnabas Matrai, Oishik Roy, Lars Hosnedl, Tino Lengerov, and Tahiraga Amrend. The students were supervised by Maxim Glaida, an external lecturer in the field of Software Engineering and Architecture.
The project began in the winter semester of 2025/26 and was further developed over two semesters as part of the courses “Innovation Lab 1” and “Innovation Lab 2.” The multi-semester project work is a central pedagogical element of these courses and aims to develop sustainable, practical solutions.
The ESG Dashboard demonstrates the success of this concept. The requirements came directly from the ESG management team at UAS Technikum Wien, thereby offering students the opportunity to work on a concrete task with direct practical relevance. The project will continue in the coming semester, with a focus on hosting the application and the potential integration of an energy dashboard to further expand the solution’s functionality.
