Renewable Energy Systems

Research Focus at UAS Technikum Wien

So far, about 90% of the global energy system is dominated by fossil fuels and to a lesser extent by nuclear technology. Renewable energy technologies currently cover only about 10%, and in Austria it is currently about one third. Climate change, the shortage of fossil energy resources and dependencies on political crisis regions are the driving forces behind the near-complete transformation of the global energy system.

The expansion of renewable energies and their integration into urban energy systems, smart grids for efficient energy distribution, the reconciliation of consumption with generation from renewable sources are all major technological, systemic, economic and societal issues. Especially densely populated urban areas with high energy densities form a big challenge.
