Applied Extended Reality in Medical Technology & Healthcare Processes

The focus area Applied Extended Reality in Medical Technology & Healthcare Processes at UAS Technikum Wien is dedicated to the development and application of immersive technologies for medical, therapeutic, and healthcare-related processes. The aim is to make real-world scenarios digitally accessible, analyse complex procedures, and create innovative learning and training environments.

Key areas include:

  • Simulation of training scenarios for medical devices and clinical workflows
  • Support of diagnostic and therapeutic processes
  • Visualisation and configuration of medical facilities
  • Simulation of physiological and pathological conditions
  • Development of interactive learning and training environments for higher education, professional training, and industry
  • Evaluation of usability, safety, and user interaction in immersive environments

XR technologies enable realistic representation of complex or otherwise inaccessible scenarios and allow procedures to be practised without risk. This supports safe training, improved decision-making, and a deeper understanding of technical and clinical processes.

The focus area integrates research and teaching and fosters collaboration with industry and healthcare institutions. The goal is to meaningfully embed immersive technologies into medical processes and demonstrate their added value for education, planning, and practical application.
