Bertl And MedTecMR At Long Night Of Research

18 June, 2026
Games and simulations were used to convey scientific findings. A VR game helped patients practice rehabilitation exercises, while AR and special glasses demonstrated visual impairments.
On April 24, 2026, the BERTL (Barrierfree Design of Teaching and Learning) and MedTecMR projects presented selected findings at Long Night of Research in Vienna (Lange Nacht der Forschung).
MedTecMR demonstrated a VR application developed as part of the MedTec Winter School, in which users pick apples from a virtual apple tree. The serious game is designed to increase motivation for rehabilitation exercises and encourage movement in a playful way.
BERTL enabled participants to experience various visual impairments firsthand. In addition to specially equipped eyeglass frames designed to simulate visual impairments, an AR application was presented that allowed users to experience different visual impairments at varying levels of severity.
