The book “Energy Sustainability and Efficiency: Global Perspectives and Innovative Approaches” has strong ties to UAS Technikum Wien: It is edited by Momir Tabakovic, head of the Renewable Energy Technologies Competence Area, and lecturer and researcher Svitlana Alyokhina (both from the Department of Industrial Engineering).
The book brings together international perspectives on sustainable energy systems and examines community-driven energy transitions, digital innovations, automation, and urban climate adaptation.
A Just Energy Transition and a Critical Analysis of the Realities of Energy Communities
The content ranges from a research report on “Positive Energy Districts” and a just energy transition to a critical analysis of the visions and realities of energy communities in Austria. A case study demonstrates how Reșița (Romania) is advancing decarbonization and climate adaptation through a SECAP process.
Contributions also demonstrate how digital services can improve quality of life and delay grid upgrades, explain a general theory of automation systems for energy and resource conservation, and introduce the concept of “Climate Fitness” for evaluating urban green spaces. In this way, the book bridges the gap between technological advances and social, economic, and policy-oriented approaches—offering concrete insights for research, policy, urban planning, and practice.
