The First Two Graduates of the Master’s Program in Quantum Engineering

The first two graduates successfully completed their Master’s degree in Quantum Engineering at UAS Technikum Wien in June 2026. Pamina Pawelka, BSc, BSc (WU) defended her thesis on quantum-assisted imaging entitled “Development of a Confocal NIR Microspectroscopy System for PbS Quantum Dot Detection in Scattering Media”. Viktor Bartosik, BSc submitted his thesis in the field of quantum communication systems entitled “Influence of Atmospheric Turbulence on the Quantum Key Rate in Satellite-Based BB84 Systems”, which was performed at Quantum Technology Laboratories (qtlabs). With these graduates, our university created for the first time highly specialized professionals for one of the world’s most dynamic fields of innovation in recent times.

Ready for research and high-tech industries

The practice-oriented, international Master’s program Quantum Engineering, held fully in English, provides students with a solid theoretical foundation in mathematics, quantum information, and quantum computing, as well as expertise in algorithms, hardware-related development, and practical projects with industry and research partners. Laboratory exercises using state-of-the-art experimental setups on topics in quantum physics specifically prepare students for careers in research, development, and high-tech startups.

The demand for qualified quantum experts is rising and will increase rapidly over the next few years. In sectors such as telecommunications, finance, energy, medical technology, and automotive, secure quantum communication, higher sensitivity of quantum-based sensors, and precision measurements are in greater demand than ever. UAS Technikum Wien plans to further expand its offerings in quantum technologies and deepen collaborations in Vienna and beyond to give students access to cutting-edge infrastructure, real-world applications and embeds them into a professional network.
