PARC (Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals)

Contribution to WP2.2:  NGRA-route

Start providing ideas and insights for the development of a roadmap for the Next Generation Environmental Risk Assessment (NR-ERA). This is based on discussions, publications already collected in WP.2.2 3, conferences, possible satellite meetings and information from experts within and outside PARC.

Deliverables: Preparation of a collection of ideas on how to proceed with NG-ERA. To this end, a meeting and a collection of possibilities for a potential PARC Roadmap for Next Generation Environmental Risk Assessment will be prepared. The information is used for a platform presentation and subsequent discussion at a WS 2.2.

Contribution to Workpackage 2.2- ‘Methodology Lead’ for NGRA for the environment

The work of the ‘Methodology Lead’ for NGRA for the environment is to foster cross-collaboration within PARC and outside of PARC, to establish synergies and to overcome barriers.

Deliverables: Utilize of the output of SETAC Special Session 8.06 – “Biodiversity and Chemical Hazard/Risk Assessment: Regulatory Frameworks, Integrative Approaches and Research for a Sustainable Future” to organize and write a shared effort policy brief and make it publicly available and distributed.

The collect of key insights: Gather the main points, conclusions, and recommendations from the session’s discussions, particularly focusing on the four main topics covered: Current state of environmental risk assessment and biodiversity, Understanding and addressing knowledge gaps and barriers, Understanding biodiversity and its interrelated threats, Innovative approaches and new methodologies to assess the impact of chemicals on biodiversity. It is necessary to collaborate with participants, reach out to the panelists, moderators, and active participants to contribute their expertise and perspectives to the policy brief. The main work is to co-ordinate the draft policy brief into an executive summary, background on the issue, key findings from the session and the policy recommendations and the conclusion and call to action. The draft is then needed to be reviewed by key stakeholders and experts from the session to ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness. Once finalized, make the policy brief available through various channels: Post it on relevant institutional websites, Share it with professional networks and associations, distribute it to policymakers and regulatory bodies, present it at future conferences or workshops

By creating this policy brief, it my foster to bridge the gap between scientific discussions and policy implementation, potentially influencing future regulatory frameworks and research directions in chemical hazard/risk assessment and biodiversity conservation.

Results

The results of the individual contributions are submitted at the end or inter-mitted of the project to relevant persons, PARC Coordination Teams, WP leads and the public.

Organisation

Dr Romana Hornek-Gausterer is a senior expert and head of Sustainability at the University of Applied Sciences, Vienna with many years of experience in the ecotoxicological assessment of chemicals and the risk assessment of persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT) substances and the regulation of chemicals and biocides. In particular, she will contribute to PARCroute on the long-term strategic orientation of PARC in the environmental field (WP2.2) and as methodology lead to foster collaboration and distribute outcomes of PARC.
